Last 3 weeks...

Well to make a long story short I Mc hammered at Rapid and Fargo. I currently find myself in Sioux Center Iowa after day 1 of the tour championship. This will be my last event of my summer schedule. Today was a good day. Ended up with a fairly solid -2 69 which puts me at t6 going into day 2. I started slow bogeying 2 of 3 but finally found a spark going -5 thru my next 6. I made a few bogeys and birdies coming in but all in all I was pleased. I think one thing that has been contributing to my poor play has been a lack of effort/commitment to shots during a round of golf. Today I really focused hard on picking lines and clubs and did the best I could to make a committed swing. That's all you can do and it seemed to really keep me in the moment. I'm in the hotel and don't tee off until noonish tomorrow. Till then,

Yankton pro am

Well three days of solid driving and ball striking coupled with mediocre wedge play and putting makes for a missed cut for this guy. All three rounds provided ample opportunities to make moves and I couldn't quite break through. I was 2 over on the last day with 7 to go and managed to make 3 birds coming in with a missed 4 footer and a eagle chip that went in, rolled around the flagstick and sat on the lip. Those 2 fall and I'd be playing today and that's with all the other nonsense that took place the prior 47 holes. I ended up with 71-72-71 for the 3 days but fell 2 short of the cut line. I'm going to use that as motivation for the upcoming event in Rapid City which is one of the bigger events out here. Stay tuned and wish me luck. I need to make some money!!!

Marshall Rd 2 and 3

Its nice to type rounds 2 AND 3 since this is the first made cut of the season after what I would consider an unispiring start. Round 2 was very windy and I couldn't get a put to fall. I actually hit 14/18 greens which is fairly solid. I made 3 poor bogies on 7,8, and 10. 1 birdie on the 3rd hole and I finished with 73. Backed up to -2 but made the cut safely by 2. I was t18 to start today and knew that I had to do something special to make up some ground. I couldn't catch the leaders but a solid round under par could at least move me up the leaderboard into a position to cash a check for more than my entry. Well I don't know where I finished but I ended the tournament with a very solid 66. I was bogey free on the front 9 with 5 pars and 4 birdies for a 32 which was exactly how I wanted to start. Near makes on 2 and 6 could have made it very special. I played solidly on the back 9 and struck again on the converted par 4 14th. Playing 465 into a solid wind I hit a great drive and a solid 6 iron from 184 to 7 feet. I made that but unfortunately 3 putted 15 to give it right back. I curled in a snake on 16 to get back to -5 and there I sat. Par par finish and a -7 total for the event. I'm very happy with the progress I've made in the last week and hopefully more great golf to come. I've got some time off this week and to Hillcrest I go next week for one of the biggest events of the year. Stay tuned,

Marshall Rd 1

Finally a breakthrough. Despite the round taking 7 hrs to completed due to weather complications I ended up with a solid 67. I actually had it to -5 thru my first 8 but some weather delays and the amount of time spent out there must have burned me out a bit. All said and done I made about 4 poor swings and made some solid putts. I'm still not making any long putts but hopefully the ball keeps rolling the right way. I'm very happy with my play and look forward to tomorrows round. Till then,

Aberdeen=peak of frustration

Well the first official missed cut of the season. The ho hum blah 72s ended with a frustrating 79. I can honestly say I didn't give up but nothing was going right. Ironically enough I hit the ball as good as I ever had on the range prior to the round and whoever that range star was disappeared and the inner chop came out. Even though I missed the cut I feel good because I had a lot of pent up frustration and anger from the fact that I was getting nothing out of my rounds. I got some good venting in and played my practice round yesterday at Marshall with Ryan Conn, Brady Schnell, Dustin Schwab, and a good friend and my host for the week Chad Michelson. We had some fun playing a skins game an I think betweenthw 5 of us we were upwards of 35 birdies along with a ace by Brady on 16. It was fun to play for a change. Hopefully that ushers in some good vibes for this week. I love the golf course and it's in great shape. Can't wait to tee it and see what I can do. Till then,

Aberdeen Rd 1

Well so far I'm a model of consistency. Another 72 for this guy. I will say this course tends to play a bit tougher than last week though. Ican honestly say that I had about 4-5 solid looks and didn't capitalize. I played the par 5s even which is a no no. Im starting to control the golf ball better and if I can keep giving myself opportunities I'm very confide dent I can make it to tomorrow and cash a check. The key is patience and allowing each round to mature and take what it gives you. I'm going to go chip and putt for a bit a few hrs prior tee off. the hotel is killing me. Hopefully I can have a breakthrough day and make it to tomorrow. Wish me luck.

Sd open Rd 3...Aberdeen prep

Well another even par 72 at SD. All said and done I hit it fairly solid for the week but I didn't make any putts. Proximity to the hole was key. If I can keep tightening up the birdies should start to come. After SD I went to see my coach and stumbled upon some faulty lie angle on my irons and wedges. We tweaked them yesterday and today during men's league I put up a 6 birdie 1 bogey 65 at Litch. I hit 17/18 greens and honestly feel that if it was one of those magic rounds I could have broken 60. I leave for Aberdeen tomorrow am and confidence is definitely increasing. I like the course and cant wait to see what the weekend brings. Stay tuned. I need to cash some checks.

SD Open Rd 2

Today was another day of even par 72. I finally made some birdies but the putter let me down on a few holes. I birdies 3/4 par 5 s which you have to do here but 3 putted 3 par 4s when I had 9 iron or less in. Every time I made a birdie a few holes later I would kill momentum by making a bogey. I'm definitely striking it better, driving it better, but I'm just not quite there. Toss in a heat index of 112 and you have a pretty exciting day. It's going to be a scorcher again so if I can erase those mistake and toss in a few extra birds I hope I can put myself in a position to cash a check. Not sure what I need today but I just need ro go as low as possible. Hopefully today brings the breakthrough I've been waiting for. Stay cool everyone!

SD Open Rd 1

Yesterday was a good yet fairly blah day. I got in a good warmup and teed it at 910. I struck it well for 9 holes hitting all greens in reg but failed to convert on any. My speed was off a bit but 9 greens and 9 pars doesn't hurt. I turned knowing if I could have a big back 9 I would be in a good position heading into today. I made a solid bird on 10 to get going a bit. Unfortunately that was my lone birdie of the day. I made a poor swing on 17 and carded my lone bogey of the day. To hit it well and shoot 72 is disappointing but I'm fairly optimistic that if I can get a few to go early today I can get myself into a better position for the final round. It's going to be hot so being mentally tough will be key. Hopefully my short game and putter cooperate. If so I should be able to put up a good number. Wish me luck and stay cool folks.

Day 2 Bakker Crossing

I started the day off at +4 knowing I had to get back to even to maybe cash a check. I teed off at 2:20 in 90 degree heat but knew if I could start off well I am mentally tough enough to grind out a good round. I started off on 10 and after a good drive i lasered a 9 iron right over the pin. A near chip in and a tap in par. Holes 11,12,13,14 I hit the edge on putts ranging from 6 feet to 25 feet. I had a solid 2 putt on 15. On 16, I had 248 into the green and ripped my 2 hybrid and gave myself 40 feet for eagle. Go figure, I lipped out and tapped in for birdie. Parred 17/18 and turned at -1. Birdie on 2 to get to -2 but made a huge mistake on 3. Had 170 in and tugged it into the water. First bogey of the day. Had a great opportunity on 4/5 but didn't convert. 2 putted 6 for birdie and closed par par bogey. The 2 bogeys I made were horrible and the amount of birdies that didn't fall could have made a large difference. All said and done I took a lot from the tournament. I feel good and I'm ready to compete. Off to vermillion in a few days and although its going to be a scorcher I'm optimistic for the weekend.

Day 1..not so impressive

Today didn't exactly goes as well as planned. I've been struggling with my swing and luckily some of the tweaks Chad and I have made are starting to show. I made 11 pars, 2 birds, and 6 horrible bogeys. I blame my mistakes on not trusting my swing and poor short game execution. The only legitimate bogey I madewas on the par 3 5th playing 240 into a 25 mph wind. The other bogies were due to missed up and downs from green side. Out in 40 back in 35. Although I'm disgusted with the score I'm fairly optimistic I can play my way into a check tomorrow. If I can erase the poor mistakes and make a few putts I should go home tomorrow feeling better about my first event in the last 6 months. Cross your fingers because I need a low number tomorrow.

Nervous, excited....

Tomorrow I hit the road for the first Dakotas event of my summer 2011 schedule. I've had a rough ride over the last 9 months but thankfully I'm still upright and ready to go. I'm stopping up in St Cloud in the morning for a quick tune up with my good friend Chad and away I'll go for a practice round and a little range work. I know the course well so its really up to my game. If I can keep it in play the golf course isn't terribly difficult. I'm so excited to be getting back at it and really nervous at the same time. I've got a lot of time, effort, and of course money invested into the next 9 weeks. I'm confident in my abilities and the rest will take care of itself. I'll be on here more and more as the weeks press on. Stay tuned and keep your fingers crossed.

Hello Minnesota!

Well folks I'm back in the good old midwest. I've been back for a week and couldn't be in a better frame of mind. Although I do miss SoCal I love being back with family and friends getting ready for what could be a very important summer in my career as a professional golfer. I played 27 at the LGC today and although it was similar to a swamp it was great. I'm working out some kinks in the golf swing but still managed 68 on the final 18. First 9 was one of those drop 3 balls per shot kinda deals. (how i get my practice-no range) The drive back was great. Got to see a friend or 2 on the way back and actually managed 1910 miles in 26 hrs of drive time so I did some serious work. If the weather starts to become more friendly I should start work at Spring Hill again which will be a nice source of income before the season starts. Like a GIANT idiot I missed sign up for the US open qualifying. I was on the road and totally spaced which to this point infuriates me. The goal as of now is 10 events for the summer. If I can catch fire early maybe I'll play more but anyting more could be overkill. Thats about all I've got now so stay tuned and keep working on the game.

News as of late....

Well here's what's new in the world of Drew. I've got my job back at the Quarry so I'll be a full time looper once again for the next month. We just wrapped up our ladies member guest which was a great success. I've been practicing and playing as much as possible with my schedule. The golf course out here looks as good as ever. The mens member/guest is next week so that should be a great opportunity to pick up some extra cash before I re-group for the summer. For those that do read this I have to say that this winter has been a learning experience that I will never forget. Even though I consider the majority of it a failure I learned a lot about myself and how I handle adversity. If this month goes well I'll be ready to go for 10+ events this summer. I can't wait and to be honest not only do I want to do well, but I need to do well. I expect success and can't wait to get back and go get it. Hope everyone is well back home. Looks like some of you should be hittin' the links shortly. till then

I almost forgot about you......

I've got to say sorry my lack of blog in the last month or so. I can honestly say I haven't been that busy really. I had another PGA qualifier that went so poorly I'd rather not talk about it. I'm talking Spalding mad from Caddyshack when he doesn't get his hot dog and what not. I've been sticking to a pretty strict regimen of practice and gym time. Derek at the Quarry has gotten me some work of late which has helped out quite a bit. Who knew life without a job was so expensive? I'll be in SoCal for another 7 or so weeks then back to beautiful Minnesota! I'm really excited to get back as this winter has not been much fun. I'm extremely focused on getting back to basics and just playing the game for what it is. Things seem to be turning around. I'll try to do my best to keep up a little better. Hope everyone is well back there!

News news news UPDATE

Well in the last month I've gone thru the flu, a move, and a PGA qualifier. The flu was zero fun, the qualifer was great experience but didn't play that great and as for the move I'm back in California. With the zero work in SC and eGolf schedule not working like I thought I decided to move back. I've been practicing 4-8 hrs everyday and its been great. I'm going to play another qualifier, work a little bit, and play some smaller events to stay sharp for the summer. Its been great to actually be able to work on my game all day everyday. The next tournament is in 10 days so I'll keep everyone posted better. Thanks for tuning in. I'll try to update more often.

Back in SC

I got back to SC on Monday at 2am and would have posted Tuesday but I got the FLU! The last 2 days have been horrible! I havent touched a club in weeks and need to get going. I'd like to get ready for 2 of the last 3 hooters tour events and then the Hilton Head eGolf event. Then eGolf goes to Morocco so I'll have 2 weeks to play/practice/work and then play the last eGolf before heading home. I would have liked to play more but thats all the budget can handle in order for me to play a full Dakotas schedule. Stay tuned. I should be teeing it in a few weeks.

Heyo Minnesota!

Well folks I'm back in gods country! I've been back for a few days and I've been to a girls hockey game, driven miles upon miles, been back to the golf club for a beer or two, shoveled the driveway 2 times, and can't wait for more. It's been great to see the family and can't wait to see the rest of my friends. I'll be back for a few weeks so I can't wait to see what my Minnesota break brings. Hope everyone is well!!

Happy Holidays!

Here I come MinneSNOWta!!

Just a heads up to my fellow Minnesotans. I will be departing Orlando, FL in less than a week for the land of 10,000 hockey rinks and flannel jackets. I can't wait to catch up with the family, friends, and get my winter schedule planned out. Work is basically non existant out here so I've been playing a lot of golf. Played in a skins game yesterday at Island West and got my butt handed to my by a bunch of 13 handicaps. Guess I better make 10 birdies next time. Hope all is well back there. Heard we've got about 3 feet on the ground so far. I can't wait!! Hope you folks are doing well. I'll be home soon! till then,

Whats new in my world...

Well I don't have a whole lot to report from South Carolina but I'll see what I can give you guys. I feel like i'm finally settled in down here. I'm caddying somewhat which helps take care of odds and ends. The golf course is great. If you're as bored as I am go to golfclubatlas.com and look up Chechessee Creek Club. Its a pretty cool track. Other than my few days a week of work I spend most of my time at Island West Golf Club. The head pro Scott made a very generous deal with me. In exchange for some odds and ends work I can play and practice free of charge so needless to say I spend at least 4 hrs a day out there playing/practicing. The weather has been great although I think its going to get cooler soon. But hey, I'm from Minnesota so I think I can handle it. If it starts to slow down here which I think it will I'd like to head down to Florida and play in a Hooters tour event or 2. Hopefully I can finish well and just keep playing. eGolf starts in February so it will be a long wait. The sooner I can play the better. On another note we've got out Member/Pro/Guest/Guest event tomorrow-saturday so Jeff from Spring Hill will be down. Should be a fun few days. Till then,

I'm Internet/Cable Active!!

Well folks sorry for the break in blog posts. I am officially in Bluffton SC all moved in and ready to rock. Its amazing how revitalizing it is getting internet in my condo. Sad too i guess. Well to recap my last week and a half. As you may have read the Jetta died and thanks to a good friend Ryan Walsh I was able to get up to an auto auction in Statesville, NC and purchase a 2010 Ford Fusion. Its a great vehicle and I'm happy to be in something reliable again. I made it down to Bluffton last Wednesday. I got all moved into my condo on Thursday but had no cable or internet. Needless to say I played a lot of solitaire and read quite a bit. I've been practicing here and there at Island West which is a public resort course just down the road. A good friend Bill Kieber got me some work out at Secession Golf Club the last week which was nice considering I've spent plenty of money trying to get my condo up and running. I'm meeting with the pro at Chechessee Creek tomorrow about caddyding out there as well. Thats about all I've got folks. Its going to be a pretty boring few months until eGolf gets going. Stay tuned,

Chronicles of a Mini Tour Pro

Well, I'm doing the very best I can to make it to Hilton Head, SC and start working and practicing but unfortunately I've run into a bit of trouble. I'm in Charlotte with a couple good friends (Clint Damman, Joe Schoolmeesters, and Neil Johnson) at their apartment to visit. The trouble is my car is dead. In a nut shell when I pulled into their apartment I saw smoke coming from the engine and lost all my antifreeze. I took it to VW the next day and the amount of damage (2 grand +) was not worth it to fix. I'm frantically trying to find a new vehicle on top of get down to Hilton to get back to business. Just one of those fun things we get to deal with in life. I guess I better play extra good in my winter tournaments. Stay tuned. Hopefully tomorrow will bring some good news.

Changing my plans...

Well folks. The last time I wrote I was planning on Southern Cal again for the winter at The Quarry. Based on my summers earnings and some help from some sponsors I've decided its in my best interest to head east to Hilton Head, South Carolina. I'll be working at a golf course called Chechessee Creek Club in Okatie, SC. I plan on caddying for 3 months as much as I can and then playing some events on the eGolf Tour. The competition there is as good as it gets on the mini tour scene. Even though events are pretty expensive I feel my game is definitely ready for a step up. If I want to continually improve, I have to surround myself with the best. I'll keep you posted as to when I plan on leaving. Enjoy the October weather! We all know what's around the corner.

A little downtime...

Well all things have calmed down since the Nebraska State Open. I've been caddying somewhat at Spring Hill, had my 25th (yep..quarter century mark) birthday, and i'm just enjoying some fall golf. The colors are changing, the weather is incredible, and wish it would stay. Unfortunately us Minnesotans know that's not possible. On another note, the time is nearing for me to be leaving for warmer climates. As of now Southern California is on my radar. I'm signed up for the Cal State Open and we'll go from there. There are some great opportunities to monday qualify for PGA events down there as well early in the season. I'm going to get some pictures at Spring Hill one of these days to share. It's too beautiful there no to. Hope you're all well and enjoy the weather. Good luck to all my friends in q school. Wish I was there boys.

Nebraska State Open: Final Round, Final Group

Well today was somewhat unsuccessful yet succussful at the same time. Here's why. I feel like today was unsuccessful because I didn't win. I was 1 stroke back to start the day and felt like I had a great chance to go out and shoot 65. This I did not do but I posted a solid -3 68 for 3 straight rounds in the 60's which was a success. I ended up solo 4th place and cashed the biggest check of my pro career at $4,800. (which by the way is 400 more dollars than I made on the Dakotas this summer.) I played bogey free golf for 15 holes only carding 2 birdies which was frustrating considering I had a few lip outs and other good looks. If the putts fall my way I could have been standing on the 16th tee at -5 or -6 easily which would have put me very near the lead. I played with 2 very good players Peter Malnati and Nate Lashley. Nate has actually had full status on the nationwide tour and to go head to head with him was great. Nate and Peter each carded -5 66's. Peter ended up winning and Nate took 3rd. I could post for hours on this round but all said and done i'm pretty pleased. It was windy, I was in the final group, and I held my own with 2 very good players. Even though I didn't win, i'm proud of how I played. i made 1 bogey in my last 37 holes which was very good. I've got a little break until Cali where I'll play in their state open as well and if work permits hopefully a little mini tour work there as well. thanks for following this summer. glad I could finish with a bang.
